WordPress and AI: five questions to bring to WordCamp Bengaluru

WordPress and AI: five questions. On Sunday 22 November, 17 of the 24 sessions at WordCamp Bengaluru are about WordPress and AI, in two halls running side by side. This post sorts them under five questions, with one thing to try before Sunday for each, and the two clashes worth deciding early.

01 How does an agent work inside WordPress?
02 Can you trust what AI writes, and what it does?
03 What will it cost, and what will it earn?
04 Is it paying off for teams like yours?
05 Will people still find your content?

General Admission is ₹800 for both days, lunch included.

17 of 24 sessions.

This year’s theme is WordPress and AI, and on Sunday 22 November it takes most of the day.

From 10:00, Xavier Hall and Concert Hall run side by side, and in five slots both have an AI session at once. So start from your question. Here are five that developers, freelancers and agency teams keep asking, the sessions that take each one on, and one thing to try before Sunday.

Every Sunday session, coloured by its question.

Five questions

And the sessions that take each one on.

01

How does an agent work inside WordPress?

WordPress has been building the parts. Since 6.9, plugins can describe what they do through the Abilities API, so other software can find those actions and call them. WordPress 7.0 arrived in May with an AI client in core and a Connectors screen for linking AI providers.

What’s harder to find is a clear picture of how those parts fit together, and that is what these two sessions draw.

// before_sunday

If one of your sites runs 7.0, open Settings → Connectors and see what’s already there.

Xavier HallTalk, 30 minStar this session: How an AI agent works in WordPress

How an AI agent works in WordPress

An agent is a goal, a set of tools and a loop, and the tools are often REST routes and hooks you already wrote. The live demo turns a six-screen WooCommerce refund into one typed sentence. You don’t need an AI background.

Concert HallWorkshop, 60 minStar this session: Connecting WordPress and MCP

Connecting WordPress and MCP

The day’s only hands-on hour. Connect a WordPress site to an AI assistant over MCP, the open standard many AI tools use to reach other software. Give it plain-English jobs, like reading a setting or publishing a post, then switch one ability off and watch it refuse. You leave with a short checklist for your own or a client’s site.

02

Can you trust what AI writes, and what it does?

AI can write a working plugin in seconds, but working is not the same as safe. In Veracode’s 2025 test of more than 100 AI models, the code had a security flaw in 45% of the tasks, and failed to guard against cross-site scripting 86% of the time. In WordPress terms that usually means missing escaping and sanitizing.

With agents the stakes go up: once one can act on a live site, you have to decide which steps it takes alone and which wait for a person.

// before_sunday

Ask your usual AI tool for a small plugin with a settings form. Look for nonces, sanitizing and escaping, and bring what you find.

03

What will it cost, and what will it earn?

An agent that works around the clock also bills around the clock, and the most capable models cost the most. For a freelancer or an agency, that sum decides whether an AI feature is worth offering a client.

The other half of the sum is what it earns, and the three talks below cover both sides.

// before_sunday

Note what you spent on AI tools last month, yours or a client’s. It turns these talks into a comparison.

04

Is it paying off for teams like yours?

Plenty of people say AI makes them faster at their own work. Fewer companies see it in the numbers. In McKinsey’s 2025 survey, 39% of respondents said AI had made any difference to their company’s profit, and most of those put it under 5%.

If you run an agency or lead a team, these three talks come at that gap from the architecture, from two years inside one team, and from where the work waits.

05

Will people still find your content?

More people now ask an AI tool instead of scrolling a page of links, and those tools lean on structure: headings, schema, entities, internal links.

Concert Hall takes it on in 15-minute talks, midday and afternoon.
